Not understand something that are the fundamentals for the basis of the most vital class to your major is very irritating and somewhat disheartening.

I’m currently working on stylistic practices for good voice leading in four-part choral writing. There’s all the rules we have to memorize and know off the top our heads. Then, there are exceptions to those rules in certain cases. But the exception to a certain rule may be another rule entirely. Memorizing these is so difficult. And looking at a piece of music and having to pick out the errors within a chord and between chords is so, so hard for me. It takes me about 10 minutes to do a single beat of a 4/4 measure. These errors go from errors within the rules that we have to memorize, key errors, spacing errors, inversion errors, etc.

I wanted to scream about it. But now I just want to cry. Because if I don’t start understanding this super soon, this semester will be HELL in theory. Absolute and total hell.
